    Major Responsibilities:
    The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the development of novel statistical methods, as well as the application of these and existing methods, to solve highly complex scientific problems involving statistical genetics and genomics. The candidate should be able to work with minimal supervision in terms of development, but at the same time work closely with experts in genotyping & gene expression. As part of the bioinformatics team the successful candidate will work with data from high-throughput SNP genotyping and gene expression profiling systems. She or he will assist with assay design and troubleshooting, protocol development, data handling, genetic analysis, and the transfer of data to and from researchers at collaborating institutions and customer sites. The candidate will lead efforts to integrate and analyze a diversity of data, including genotype data, population data, clinical phenotype data, sequence data, and gene expression data. Identify scientific and technical problems arising in the development of new and existing products, proposing solution strategies, and, where appropriate, provide the means to implement the solutions. Maintain stature in field by participation in scientific societies, presentations at scientific meetings, keeping abreast of the latest developments in statistical genetics, timely publication of research and development findings, and maintaining external contacts.

    Skills/Knowledge Required:
    This position requires the knowledge and skills normally acquired through completion of M.Sc. or Ph.D. (preferred) in Biostatistics, Population Genetics, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, or related field, with at least 4 years of relevant experience in Statistical Genetics or Genetic Epidemiology or gene expression profiling data analysis. Your statistical expertise includes hands-on experience with one, and preferably more of: linkage analysis, linkage disequilibrium mapping, association studies, multivariate statistics, population genetics (e.g. coalescent simulations), data mining, and microarray data analysis. An excellent understanding of genomic sequence/annotation databases and their applications, a record of generating useful information from large data sets, and experience on the use of common statistical and mathematical tools (e.g. SAS, S-Plus, R, MatLab) in the interpretation of biological data is necessary. To qualify, the candidate must have demonstrated computer skills including a major programming (e.g. Java, C++, or C) or scripting language (e.g. Perl, Pyton) in a UNIX or Windows NT environment. Excellent communication skills, including ability to write and present information effectively, are essential. Experience with bioinformatics/sequence analysis tools (e.g. Blast, LAP, Sim4, HMM), and database skills (e.g. SQL), is desired.
