Title: Data Standards Coordinator
Description: The Data Standards Coordinator?s role is to strategically support and facilitate development and upgrading of zoological data standards, including business rules, for more than 1,000 zoological data fields used by zoos and aquariums worldwide. The Data Standards Coordinator will work with diverse, international groups of zoo and aquarium staff, plus additional scientists, facilitating discussion and catalyzing decisions which will define the data standards for a major new zoological information management system.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications, and experience.
Not to Exceed $ 50,000 / year.

Position Location: ISIS Central Office, Minneapolis, Minnesota USA
Responsibilities:
? Work with zoo and aquarium user community to define zoological information and its use in current and future business processes
? Schedule and coordinate data standards workshops; document meeting activities and produce minutes/reports
? Guide the development of documents for data standards and business rules
? Select the conversion tools and methods appropriate to the project. Develop the procedures and tools necessary to ensure the accuracy, integrity and quality of the converted data
? Coordinate the transition from current repository of highly scientific data to a new, global, distributed data warehouse
? Participate in the implementation and management of conversion initiatives
? Based on project requirements, coordinate data/information architectures with technology, communication, application, security and other key architectural elements
? Identify, integrate and develop common data models and elements among and between applications (e.g. common registration metadata, common audit, management and reporting data requirements)
? Handle issues related to architecture and design of the data strategy
? Participate in repackaging of electronic data to enable managed distribution and utilization using "Internet" based standards and business intelligence/data warehousing technologies
? Participate in developing specifications, products, services, applications, conversions, plans associated with the implementation and deployment of the global data infrastructure
? Troubleshoot problems related to data quality, data cleanup, investigating sources of erroneous transactions, security issues, issues related to availability and use of data
? Perform data conversion assessments of the level of effort associated with converting existing structured data from the current format and metadata to the target environment
? Manage day-to-day issue resolution, managing priorities, and managing expectations
? Work closely from within the community to identify data stewards in order to help promote and implement data standards
? Coordinate changes needed in the data architecture with the technical development effort
? Provide technical and functional guidance in any and all data integrity clean up efforts
? Insure that all previously defined data standards are incorporated into any new logical or physical dataset designs
? Identify and validate best practices in the current and other systems to be used as a model for the new system
? Perform other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals and objectives of the organization
Position Requirements:
? A minimum of (5) years in Information Technology in a data management position
? Strong experience managing databases, data warehousing / data mart back-ends
? Experience in managing projects from start to finish
? Data modeling in a Business Intelligence / Decision Support System environment
? Extensive experience with data warehouse or data mart design and implementation and related methodologies. Experience designing and implementing Online Analytical Processes (OLAP) applications and data mining
? Knowledge of Web-enabled technology
? Preferred experience with Client Server development tools (i.e. MS SQL Server, PowerBuilder, Visual Basic) and application development
? Experience in UML methodologies, use of data maintenance and documentation tools like Erwin, Silver Run, Visio
? Experience in Logical and Physical modeling of application databases
? Demonstrable analytical problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
? Demonstrable excellent verbal and written communication skills
? Demonstrable capacity to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams and with client organizations
? A team player with a track record for meeting strict deadlines and managing competing priorities Working experience in a Zoo or Aquarium in a similar capacity is highly desirable but not necessary
? Four-year degree in bioinformatics, science or computer science field
Work Conditions:
? Some travel required for the purpose of meeting with stakeholders, or off-site personnel/management
? Sitting for extended periods of time
? Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other devices and objects
? Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings
