    The Protein Information Resource (PIR) is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant to join our group at the Georgetown University Medical Center to participate in the development of the UniProt project. This position will require at minimum of 20 hours of work. PIR is a public resource of protein informatics, providing functionally annotated and value-added protein databases as well as bioinformatics tools to support genomic and proteomic research and knowledge discovery.

    Responsibilities:
    • Protein classification database curation
    • Annotation of functional information on protein sequences
    Requirements:
    • A graduate student with a good background in protein biochemistry, general biochemistry and molecular biology/molecular genetics
    • Strong interest in proteins, general understanding of protein sequence and structure and of biochemical pathways
    • Detail-oriented and thorough
    • Basic computer skills, excellent analytical skills
    • Good communication skill and team player
    • Experience in multiple sequence alignments, biological database searches, and knowledge of protein structure as well as molecular graphics is a plus
