    A faculty position in plant bioinformatics with emphasis on innovative research applicable to plant structural and functional genomics. This is a 9-month tenure track position with opportunity for summer appointment.

    Responsibilities will be allocated as 75% research and 25% teaching in the Department of Crop Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

    The successful applicant is expected to develop an internationally-recognized, externally-funded research program that develops and applies creative ways to mine, visualize, and integrate data from plant structural and functional genomics research. Collaboration with genomicists at the University of Illinois and elsewhere to develop ways to make data accessible and useable by a wide community of researchers locally and nationally. The successful candidate will develop and offer annually an undergraduate or graduate course in the general area of bioinformatics, computational methods for genomics research, computer science basics for biologists, or related areas.

    A Ph.D. is required and experience beyond the Ph.D. is desirable. The candidate must have appropriate education during the period of Ph.D. or post Ph.D. research in bioinformation sciences, computer sciences, genomics, statistics, or related areas.

    The candidate must be able to develop and apply methods that enhance the generation, analysis, and use of plant structural and functional genomics data, especially in the area of application to plant systems of agronomic importance. The candidate must demonstrate excellent potential to conduct and report independent and team-based research, attract extramural research funding, and develop an outstanding teaching program.

    Salary commensurate with training and experience.

    Starting date: January 19, 2004 or when a suitable candidate is available.
