DESCRIPTION

The Fungal Genomics Project at Concordia University is seeking a system administrator/linux developer who will possess expert knowledge of Linux and Linux/Unix system and network administration in a multi-user environment.

REQUIREMENTS

The system/network administrator should be familiar with the installation and cloning of Linux machines and with the development and management of computing clusters, mail servers and group IT support. This is an academic research project, so the syste/network administrator will need to coordinate with administrators of systems and networks at the department and university level.

The successful candidates are expected to interact with a large number of researchers. As a of the bioinformatics group you will provide expert scientific and technical consultation and support to project members and produce tangibles including open-source informatic pipelines, a web site, documentation and training support for undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants must be comfortable in a Linux-based computing environment, should have command of at least one programming language (Java/Perl/C++), and will be expected to participate in the development of the Project's web, programming, and bioinformatics research environments.

Candidates for the Systems/Network administrator and Linux Developer position should possess either an advanced degree in bioinformatics, computer science, the biological sciences, and/or 2-5 years relevant work experience either in a research lab or in an IT department. Exceptional candidates with very strong IT backgrounds without previous experience in bioinformatics will be considered. Applicants must possess excellent communications skill. Experience with Beowulf cluster computing or GRID highly desirable. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their ability to think and work both independently and as part of a tightly integrated team.
