    PROJECT DESCRIPTION

    Join our development team of five people developing two web-based applications. MouseDB, an internal site, provides workflow and data management for a large mouse mutagenesis project here at the Center for Functional Genomics (CFG). The other site, http://neuromice.org, is a virtual storefront to offer the wider research community the mutant lines developed at the CFG and two other mutagenesis centers. General information about the groups involved is available at http://neuromice.org.

    Neuromice is a Java webapp, developed using Apache Struts. MouseDB is a hybrid of (mostly) ColdFusion and Java. We use JUnit and an in-house product (ColdUnit on SourceForge) for automated unit testing, CruiseControl and Ant for our continuous integration automated build process, CVS for source code control, ColdFusion MX Professional Edition as our ColdFusion server, Tomcat as our servlet container, Oracle for our database, and FitNesse for automated functional testing. Future plans may include JBoss and/or Hibernate.

    COMPENSATION

    In addition, the CFG bioinformatics team strives to be a fun and supportive environment. We are serious about our software practices, and enjoy learning about the biology that our software supports.

    ACTIVITIES

    • Writing and unit testing application code in Java and ColdFusion
    • Oracle database design
    • Working closely with team members and users

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Working knowledge of Java
    • Strong web programming experience
    • Strong SQL skills (preferably Oracle)
    • Good communication skills
    • Team-focused, goal-oriented nature

    PLUSSES

    • Automated unit testing experience (JUnit or other)
    • Experience writing Ant scripts, administering CruiseControl
    • Strong Java web programming experience
    • Unix experience
    • Matlab experience
    • Technical mentoring experience
    • Background in biology, genetics

    CONDITIONS

    This position is currently tied to NIH funding through the Center for Functional Genomics and is dependent on continued extramural funding.

    We are looking to fill this position starting as early as November 10th, and will continue looking until we find the right person.
