    DESCRIPTION

    The Laboratory for Computational Genomics at Washington University is seeking a Scientific Computing System Manager.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • 2-3 years of professional experience as systems administrator in a networked Linux environment, including NFS, NIS, DNS, DHCP, and tape backup
    • Experience with batch queuing systems is required, and SGE experience is a plus
    • Excellent hardware and software troubleshooting skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • B.S. in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or related fields is
    required; M.S. is preferred
    • Experience with Windows administration is a plus
    • Familiarity with Bioinformatics is a plus

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsibilities include: maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting a 108-processor Linux cluster, file and web servers, 20 desktop Linux and Windows systems, and network infrastructure; developing and maintaining an efficient backup policy for servers and local disks; carrying a pager and responding to occasional evening and weekend support requests; ensuring maximal uptime by anticipating points of failure and lapses of security; creating and maintaining documentation on the computer systems in the group; researching ways to optimize cluster configuration and increase overall performance; purchasing, installing, configuring, testing, and optimizing software and hardware; and advising on purchasing and cluster expansion.
