DESCRIPTION
The University of Edinburgh has a series of initiatives to integrate the physical and life sciences. As part of this we wish to appoint an individual with an outstanding research record and strong academic leadership ability as Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Bioinformatics. You will hold a Chair in either the School of Biological Sciences (RAE 5A) or the School of Informatics (RAE 5*A) within the College of Science & Engineering.
In addition to leading your own research programme, you will provide intellectual leadership and direction for the new Edinburgh Centre for Bioinformatics. With around 70 participants, the emerging Centre includes highly-regarded research groups within the Colleges of Science & Engineering and of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine and from other research institutions in the area, including the Roslin Institute and the MRC Human Genetics Unit. Your challenge is to shape a centre of excellence that enhances and extends this existing rich resource of high-quality research.REQUIREMENTS
To succeed in this role you will have an excellent international reputation in bioinformatics, computational biology, or informatics. You will also demonstrate the vision and skills required to lead a Centre in which collaboration and cross-fertilisation are essential.
