    POST-DOCTORAL POSITION, Uppsala, Sweden.

    DESCRIPTION

DNA-Microarray analysis to develop agricultural functional genomics.
A postdoctoral position is available within the Strategic Research Programme in Agricultural Functional Genomics (AgriFunGen) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala. The AgriFunGen programme support several PhD positions and associate professorships concerned with Functional genomics studies with relevance to production traits, developmental biology, pest resistance, pathology, virology etc. By improving our basic knowledge of such processes we also develop tools for solving present and future problems in agriculture. Technique platforms with state-of-the-art equipment in proteomics, DNA sequencing, SNP analysis and DNA microarrays are available to serve the research projects using different model organisms such as mouse, chicken, Arabidopsis and bacteria. Additional information of the AgriFunGen programme is available at: http://www.agrifungen.slu.se.

    REQUIREMENTS

The successful applicant will support projects that will make use of DNA microarray and real-time PCR analysis, mainly assistance with experimental design, data analysis and bioinformatics. Besides training users the applicant is also expected to give short courses in these technologies. Spotted DNA-microarrays are available from collaborating laboratories. The laboratory at the Genetic Center has a scanner and real-time PCR instruments and all equipment necessary for the experiments. Software packages such as GeneSpring, Bioconductor and J-Express are currently used for data analysis. A technician is also supporting the analysis. Applicants should have experience in DNA-microarray analysis, including knowledge in statistics and the use of statistical software as well as of PCR. Experience with the use of different microarray analysis software such as Bioconductor, GeneSpring, SAM, etc. is a merit, as well as other bioinformatics tools for further downstream analysis of gene expression data. The position is available immediately for one year and may be prolonged for another year. The applicant will be positioned at the DNA microarray unit at the Genetic Center at SLU but will also be affiliated to the Linneaus Center for Bioinformatics (LCB), a shared resource center for Bioinformatics between the SLU and the Uppsala University. Part of the time can be used for developing bioinformatics tools linked to the DNA microarray analysis as well as integration of data from metabolomics, proteomics and analysis of gene families. For information of the LCB please consult: http://www.lcb.uu.se.
