Tired of the poor resources in academics or the lack of freedom in a company? Do you want your own office? We are looking for an enthusiastic person with several years of experience in bioinformatics to assist our research groups in bioinformatics. A profound understanding of molecular biology and extensive experience in sequence analysis, data mining, genome analysis, programming, and scripting is needed. Candidates with a PhD are encouraged to apply, but those having a master together with several years of practical experience will also be considered.
In addition to their support and development commitments the successful candidate will be encouraged to attend international bioinformatics conferences and to have the initiative to develop their own research projects in the field of bioinformatics. This position will have full access to clusters, databases, software, storage systems, etc. from the Basel Computational Biology Center (BC2) and at the FMI. Also, depending on the qualifications of the candidate, the position may also involve the supervision of students.DESCRIPTION
- Help and support: data mining, sequence comparisons, sequence alignment, BLASTs, individual projects with groups, etc.
- Teaching: Teaching of classes in bioinformatics
- Development: Evaluation of new tools and software, development of bioinformatics tools. Making tools accessible to users at the FMI (on www, central servers etc.)
- Databases: Maintenance of existing in-house databases (such as genbank, SWISS-PROT, etc.) for specific in-house applications
- Interface and collaboration with outside institutions: Interact with commercial and academic bioinformaticians in developing and sharing bioinformatic resources.
