Event: Oxford University Bioinformatics, Virtual Open Day

Oxford University is holding a ``Bioinformatics Virtual Open Day'' on 16th April to allow would-be bioinformaticians from around the world to find out more about study and research at one of the world's premier centres in the field. The 'open day' will make Oxford open to all for a few hours and will allow those thinking of studying the subject and moving into the professional field to ``chat'' with current students and tutors, take a ``student's eye view'' of teaching in the subject, and find out more about the part-time postgraduate Certificate and MSc specially designed for those in industry. Those ``attending'' the day will gain access to specimen course work, find out more about the Oxford college system, take a virtual tour of the city and even view the lunch menu students will enjoy on that day. Visitors will even be able to take a test to determine their eligibility for a bursary in the subject.

Dr. Charlotte Deane, Director of the part-time M.Sc. program and a researcher in protein structure prediction, said ``This is a first for Oxford, an open day that will not require people to take as much as a bus ride to enjoy it! For four hours on 16th April we hope as many people as possible will 'come along' to find out more about our work in Oxford and why we think it's a great place to study this challenging and dynamic new subject''.
