    BACKGROUND

    The Laboratory for Computational Genomics at Washington University in St. Louis seeks an outstanding Bioinformatics Programmer, available to start immediately.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The successful applicant will work with computer scientists and bioinformaticians to develop a software pipeline for automated and interactive review and validation of gene annotations. Responsibilities include: developing and maintaining software tools for internal use in our annotation project; producing well-documented, release-quality versions of these tools for distribution; assessing and implementing annotation solutions based on existing open-source tools; and implementing novel annotation and sequence alignment algorithms developed by the Laboratory.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Requirements for this position include:
    • M.S. in computer science
    • at least one year of professional experience
    • excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • familiarity with UNIX-like environments
    • expertise with a user interface toolkit, such as Tk
    Prior experience developing bioinformatics tools is a strong plus. Familiarity with algorithms for sequence alignment and/or gene finding is desirable but not required. Facility with both C/C++ and a scripting language, such as Perl, is a strong plus.
