    The Bioinformatics Organization (Bioinformatics.Org) announces the registration of its 10,000th member on April 28. The Organization's membership has doubled in size in just 16 months, making Bioinformatics.Org the largest international association in the scientific field of bioinformatics.

    Members of the Organization come from all over the world, with the largest concentrations in the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, India, France and Japan. Member affiliations are academic, governmental and industrial. Associated (basic) membership at Bioinformatics.Org is free and never expires.

    About Bioinformatics.Org:
    The Bioinformatics Organization, Inc. (a.k.a. Bioinformatics.Org) started in 1998 as an effort to create a collaborative environment for bioinformatic practitioners and neophytes throughout the world. Incorporated in 2003, the Organization now provides these individuals, as well as the public at large, free and open access to the methods and materials used in bioinformatics research, development (i.e., computer programming), and education. And we provide a permanent location for the generation of such, all without regard for nationality, education or affiliation. By doing this, the Organization helps to lower the barrier to entering and participating in bioinformatics, as access to commercial resources can be prohibitively expensive for those working individually, in small groups, at poorly-funded institutions or in developing nations. Currently, there are more than 10,000 members and 150 hosted projects registered at the website (http://Bioinformatics.Org), making the Bioinformatics Organization, Inc. the largest international association in the field.
