This position offers excellent opportunity to develop new skills in scientific data analysis, bioinformatics, computational genomics / proteomics and mass spectrometry. The position also provides an opportunity to pursue independent bioinformatics research in form of algorithm development, data analysis and data mining.

Research & development will be conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Xuechun Zhao in the Plant Biology Division at the Noble Foundation. The successful candidate will participate as a member of a larger integrative functional genomics team among several research groups across Noble Foundation conducting fundamental science discovery in Plant Biology.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    1) Developing bioinformatics pipelines, biological databases and web-based interfaces to facilitate basic plant biology researches using systems biology approaches, i.e. creating local repositories of biological data, as well as development of software tools to analyze and manipulate such data. Software development will be performed in C/C++/C#, Java, Perl, XML, Matlab, R and SQL, etc. 2) Developing systems, tools and new algorithms to aid the analysis of genomic/proteomic sequence, SAGE, microarray gene expression and mass spectrometry data. 3) In addition to R&D activities, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining the group's web site as well as genomic and proteomic databases for the Bioinformatics Laboratory of Noble Foundation. 4) Other specific duties will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.

    REQUIREMENTS:
M.S. or Ph.D. in a related topic with a good track record. The ideal candidate will have background in functional genomics, protein sequence and structure analysis oriented bioinformatics and/or related topics. Additional experience with image processing and pattern recognition, statistical analysis and knowledge of bioinformatics tools and biological data (e.g., BLAST, ClustalW, FASTA, ASN, and XML) is desirable.

    HOW TO APPLY

Salary is commensurate with experience but very attractive rates are available. Interested individuals should provide a letter outlining research interests and experience, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact information for three references to:
