    BACKGROUND:
    A postdoctoral position is available in management of bioinformatic data for a plant molecular-breeding project. A multi-institutional USDA-funded CAP initiative aims to discover and exploit QTLs controlling complex rice traits in assorted genetic materials. Raw and processed genetic and phenotypic data will be maintained in project and public databases and shared with other public databases. The long-range goal of the lab is development of computational tools for analysis and application of QTL studies.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The appointee will construct databases and WWW interfaces, manage submission and release of data, and assist in the analysis and planning of genetic experiments including marker-assisted breeding.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    Qualifications expected are a Ph.D. in a relevant biological or analytical science; experience in designing and building relational databases; facility with popular programming languages, WWW technologies, and genomics tools; preparedness to supervise students and technicians; good spoken and written English communication skills.

    PREFERENCES:
    Experience in molecular and statistical genetics and/or crop breeding is preferred.

    TERMS:
    The position will be of one to four years? duration, contingent on progress and continued funding.

    COMPENSATION:
    Salary $35 - $40K, benefits.
