    BACKGROUND

    Zymeworks Inc., a Vancouver based Biotech/IT company developing predictive technology for protein engineering, is searching for a candidate to lead the development of its molecular modeling software. The position involves the implementation and deployment of novel molecular modeling techniques for a clustered computing environment and is available beginning March 2005.

    Zymeworks is a recently established company that is looking for bright and motivated individuals who are interested in joining a company in its early stages of growth towards becoming a world-wide leader in protein engineering. You will be given the opportunity to lead by example in directing the work of a team of programmers who are implementing cutting edge technology in molecular modeling.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelors degree or higher in computer science, bioinformatics or related field
    • Minimum 3 years experience in managing and directing software development
    • Minimum 5 years experience in C programming language
    • Programming experience for scientific computing
    • Strong familiarity with Linux/Unix environments
    • Previous exposure to molecular modeling software, algorithms and techniques
    • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical people is important.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Lead a team of programmers in the development of molecular modeling software
    • Get your hands dirty and write some of the code yourself
    • Develop new techniques for modeling biological molecules
    • Communicate with scientists and management
    • Assist in evaluating and interviewing candidates for software development positions
    • Contribute your skills and talents to shape our vision

    DESCRIPTION

    In this position, you will be leading a team of 2-5 programmers in the development of software for molecular modeling. You will be challenged to think ?outside-of-the-box? and to tackle difficult problems, in collaboration with scientists and other specialists. Your solutions may result in patents or publications in scientific journals. Salaries and benefits package commensurate experience and are highly competitive with industry standards.
