BACKGROUND
The long range goal of the project is to understand, at the whole genome level, mechanisms that produce genetic variation in populations under selection, to detect these mechanisms using DNA marker information, and to exploit them in population improvement programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop statistical theory and software to detect QTL that interact with genetic background or that have undergone mutation or recombination during the course of selection. These objectives will require joint analysis of pedigree, phenotypic, and DNA markre information.
REQUIREMENTS
· Ph.D. in population, evolutionary, or quantitative genetics, or in plant or animal breeding.
· Strong statistical background and interest; familiarity with Bayesian statistics and with statistical methods associated with analyzing pedigrees highly desirable.
· Ability or interest in computer programming also required (preferably in C++).
· Demonstrated ability to think independently and possession of excellent oral and written communication skills.
PREFERENCES
· Research experience and analysis of molecular marker / phenotype associations preferable but not required.

TERMS
The initial appointment will be for one year, with funding available for up to three years, contingent on satisfactory progress.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Starting salary $30,000 to $35,000 with benefits.
