DESCRIPTION

Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow required to be part of a team responsible for delivering a system to: extend Arabidopsis thaliana (ATIDB) and Streptomyces coelicolor (ScoDB) databases to include annotation of regulatory signals; develop BioMoby software interfaces for ATIDB and ScoDB; through collaborations, establish and utilise software interfaces for other datasets (transcriptome, proteome, metabolome etc.) which provide information on gene function; develop a system which dynamically integrates data pertaining to gene function from the data-GRID.

REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant area of science. In depth knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems, object-orientated and functional programming, and development of data-base driven websites. Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team together with a bioinformatics background and an enthusiasm for science is also required. Skills and experience in several of the following areas: statistics, data-mining, software development, high-throughput ?-omics? technologies, graph theory would be desirable.

TERMS:
This is a 3 year position offered under the terms of the BBSRC Training Development Scheme. Salary on appointment will be within the range £26,151 to £31,767 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. The salary includes a retention and recruitment allowance which the post currently attracts. JIC offers a choice of final salary and stakeholder pensions.
