POSITION:
Informatics GUI Designer ? Integrated Biology Solutions Team

As the Informatics GUI Designer, you will use your knowledge of Human-Computer Interactions to lead in the design of the user interface aspects of Agilent?s market leading Life Science Informatics products to maximize ease of use for the Research Scientist user. This will require applying your knowledge of Human-Computer interactions to the design and development of end-user software in a highly cooperative environment working with a multi-disciplinary team.

In this role you will be interacting with collaborator and customer scientists from the Gene Expression and Proteomics research areas. It is crucial that the candidate has an in depth understanding of the needs of these scientists and can translate that into a world-class product implementation. You will assist in understanding the nature and needs of the user community, with particular emphasis on the user interface and assisting with the development of appropriate requirement and design specifications for the software solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include:

Use your experience of human-computer interactions to work with Product Managers, Product Specialists and developers to design user interface prototypes and design specifications.
Research the scientific workflow that will underpin a specific application area in order to minimize the learning curve experienced by customers.
Plan and conduct user interviews to act as the basis for and test the acceptance of the designs.
Perform usability testing on both existing products and new designs
Document your designs and then lead design review meetings with other team members.

REQUIREMENTS

Requires
MS or equivalent in Human-Computer Interactions
3+ years experience in Human-Computer Interactions product design with knowledge of Bioinformatics tools and data highly desired.
Demonstrated experience in designing the user interface aspects of software for use by scientists involved in Disease/Drug Discovery or closely related discipline.
Experience of conducting usability testing is highly desirable, as is experience of interactive tutorials and/or guided workflows
Demonstrated experience in designing easy to use interfaces for complex desktop applications is essential.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills,
Ability to work in cross-functional global team environment
