Seven Bioinformatics/Systems Biology/Chemoinformatics PhD and Postdoc Positions available at Center for Biological Sequence Analysis, BioCentrum-DTU, Technical University of Denmark
Six fixed-term postdoc positions and one PhD stipend are available within the following areas: immunological bioinformatics, systems biology, drug discovery and chemoinformatics. The positions are funded by grants from the NIH, EU and the Danish Research Council, respectively. These projects and the topics are briefly described below; they all involve collaboration with groups at other Danish or foreign universities, as well as industrial partners. - Two postdoc positions within SYSTEMS BIOLOGY/cell cycle/data integration, both funded by grants under the FP6 EU framework programme. Postdoc 1 will primarily work on mining novel functional information by integration of highly diverse data sets and databases (microarray data, protein-protein interaction data, ChIP-on-chip data), with focus on the study of the eukaryotic cell cycle (the DIAMONDS project). The aim is to establish a basic model of the cell cycle, in four different species including S. cerevisia, S. pombe, A. thaliana and man. Postdoc 2 will primarily be working on the integration of major databases and software tools in bioinformatics, using existing methods and emerging GRID service technologies. This project is part of the FP6 EU project "EMBRACE: A European Model for Bioinformatics Research and Community Education", with focus on enabling data providers and tool builders to standardise their data access and software tools using the new grid computing technologies ideally adapted to the task.
- One postdoc position within DRUG DISCOVERY/Alzheimers disease, who will primarily be involved in the identification of genes that are differentially expressed as a result of amyloid-ß exposure, with focus on analysis of genes with unknown function that do not rely on sequence similarity. This research project is part of the FP6 EU project "ADIT - Design of Small Molecule Therapeutics for the Treatment of Alzheimer?s Disease Based on the Discovery of Innovative Drug Targets", with the overall aim of applying an innovative, systematic and coordinated analytical approach to the identification of pharmacologically tractable proteins associated with Alzheimer?s disease (Aß)-associated neurotoxicity.
- One PhD stipend and two postdoc positions within CHEMOINFORMATICS under the NABIIT initiative (Programme committee for NAno science and technology, BIotechnology and IT). The postdocs and the PhD will be involved in analysis of large databases representing chemical descriptions of compounds using new machine learning based computational approaches, as well as computational chemistry methods. The overall aim is to develop a broad variety of new and innovative computational tools for use in drug discovery and optimization processes, including methods that predict the ability of compounds to act as drugs, as well as their key properties like toxicity and solubility. These projects will be carried out in close collaboration with the Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Applicants must have a general interest and biological, chemical or computational knowledge in one of more of the above mentioned areas, as well as interest in teaching. CBS offers ten different bioinformatics and computational biology courses at the Master and PhD levels and a chemoinformatics course on PhD level. Candidates applying for a PhD stipend should have a Master's degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, molecular biology, physics, engineering or a similar degree.
Candidates applying for a postdoc position should in addition to a relevant MSc degree have academic qualifications equivalent to the PhD level. The salary and appointment terms are in accordance with the current collective agreement for research staff at Danish universities.
