DESCRIPTION

Applications are invited for a full professorship or an associate professor in experimental and computational gene expression analysis at the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis, BioCentrum (BiC), Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

BiC represents the largest concentration of academic biotechnological research in Denmark, and is involved in research and teaching in the areas of molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, bioinformatics and systems biology.

The position is placed at the bioinformatics and systems biology research center (CBS). CBS presently comprises 45 academics, in addition to technical and administrative staff. The research at CBS is organized into seven research groups, where the new professor/associate professor will head the group for Systems Biology of Gene Expression. The center has its own experimental facility with Affymetrix and custom array equipment. The six other research groups address topics within: Immunological bioinformatics, Protein post-translational modification, Molecular evolution, Comparative microbial genomics, and Integrative systems biology (see http://www.cbs.dtu.dk for further details). Collaboration between the groups and other relevant DTU departments is highly encouraged.

The position in systems biology with focus on gene expression analysis will be offered to an individual who has made well documented research contributions at an international level within the experimental aspects of the area as well as computational analysis. Furthermore, it is important that the candidate has documented proficiency within scientific leadership and approach problems from a biological perspective. The current research topics in the array group include: Modeling of regulatory networks and systems dynamics, integration of diverse data domains such as gene expression data, protein-protein interaction data, regulatory sequence motifs, ChIP-on-chip data in relation to protein coding genes and non-coding RNAs.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for a position as associate professor should have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship. Applicants for a full professorship must be able to document outstanding research at an international level within one or more of the research topics mentioned above.

scientific production, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team
the ability to teach, promote and utilize research results
a broad experience base, including international experience
the ability to contribute to development of the department's internal and external cooperation.
