DESCRIPTION

The Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) is currently recruiting for two postdoctoral associates in our Computational Discovery group in the area of bioinformatics. The research for both positions will be conducted in close collaboration with the experimental discovery groups in the genetics and genomics departments. In addition, these researchers will have the opportunity to be exposed to basic biomedical research in all of GNF?s discovery programs, including oncology, neurobiology, structural biology, and immunology.

Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Associate, Functional Genomics (AS4-57).
The primary research area will be in analysis and modeling of data from functional genomics technologies. In particular, the researcher will use gene expression, siRNA and cDNA screening, and high-throughput genotyping data to infer gene function and/or mechanisms of gene regulation.

Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Associate, Genetics (AS5-2).
The primary research area will be in mouse and human genetics, focusing on the interface with functional genomics technologies. Possible projects include developing and applying algorithms for QTL analysis and/or novel array-based resequencing.

REQUIREMENTS

For both positions, the ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Genetics, Bioinformatics, or Biology (or related field) with some programming and/or statistical experience, or a Ph.D. in Computer Science (or related field) with a graduate-level background in biology. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment are essential.
