RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Software Developer will independently design, develop, and implement complex software packages. Software development will be both de novo and will also involve porting/implementing available open source packages for our own needs. In addition, the Software Developer will be involved in training more junior programmers and serve as the technical lead on software development within the genome databases group. Specific duties include: design, develop, implement, and document software required for biological databases; train, supervise, and evaluate entry-level programmers; monitor and assess available bioinformatics software, in particular, open source packages; collaborate with other database groups on development of shared software and serve as a technical liaison for collaborators.
The Senior Software Developer must be able to work productively in a team environment, participate in group discussion, communicate effectively with people of varying technical backgrounds, problem solve and come to consensus with other members of the group. In addition, 3+ years of management experience is required, including supervising entry level programmers and designing/developing novel projects from the beginning, using scalable/modular code.REQUIREMENTS
Technical skills required are: object-oriented Perl, Java, C++, UI, web design, CGI, Web services, DBI, Unix (Sun Solaris and Mac OS X), XML, development of graphics and visualization tools, development of bioinformatics and biology applications. A strong math background is required.HOW TO APPLY
