What will you be doing?
Responsible for technology planning, direction and control for in house-developed and vendor-supplied information systems in support of the Research IT Systems efforts for an academic/medical research center.
Provides leadership and management for all Research IT & Bioinformatics related projects.
Supervises and directs staff in the Research IT group.In conjunction with researchers, Information Technology staff, vendors, consultants, and other personnel identifies the software, hardware, network technology and staff required to address the infrastructure computing needs of the organization.
Supervises and directs the department unit to provide effective and timely information systems services to clients.
Provides support and guidance in the development of staff. Provides methodologies, technical direction and leadership for the development of in-house information systems for Research Informatics and proactively enforces its use.
Provides methodology for the selection, evaluation, and implementation of vendor-supplied Bioinformatics applications.
Coordinates the detailed analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation and maintenance of Bioinformatics infrastructure software.REQUIREMENTS
To Get an interview, Must have EACH of the following:
- A Ph.D. in Computer Science or scientific related discipline from a regionally accredited institution required.
- Experience working w/ research scientists/faculty in an academic/healthcare environment.
- Background in molecular biology/gene chip expression a HUGE PLUS.
- Respect of the research community.
- Six to ten years of progressive experience in information systems, with an emphasis on large applications development, project management, hardware and software as it related to research and Bioinformatics.
- A strong background in object-oriented software development methodologies. A strong background in architecting (hardware and software), developing and implementing large-scale biological databases.
- A strong background in Unix shell scripting, PERL, Java, and/or C.
- A strong background in project management. Superior communication skills.
- The ability to effectively manage multiple, concurrent projects is essential.
- Prior experience in Bioinformatics is required.
