BACKGROUND

Genetic Solutions is a young dynamic and growing Australian company specialising in the development and commercialisation of DNA technology in the livestock and aquaculture industries. In business for over six years, the company markets a range of DNA products and services in Australia and internationally. SureTRAK® and GeneSTAR® are our lead products (see http://www.geneticsolutions.com.au). We also have a focussed R&D program which is developing new DNA based products and services and we are seeking a talented Bioinformatics specialist to join this team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In the position you will display high level skills in research innovation focussed towards the generation of novel intellectual property and new diagnostic products. You will take on a senior role within the group in the areas of genomics and bioinformatics. You will be responsible for basic and applied research to identify functional elements in livestock genomic sequence and developing methods for using the information to accelerate diagnostic marker development. In both independent and collaborative research you will be expected to develop methods and bioinformatic tools for the identification of genes controlling complex traits in livestock through integrating information from different types of genomic studies including gene mapping, gene expression and comparative genomic studies.

REQUIREMENTS

If you are the ideal candidate for the position you will have a degree in Bioinformatics or the Biological sciences, preferably with a biomedical or agricultural application. Ideally you would have expertise in comparative genomics, gene discovery, gene characterisation, analysis of genomic sequence data and biostatistics. You will also be experienced in the development of bioinformatics tools and computer programming.

If successful you will join a small and enthusiastic research team comprising research scientists and associates. Your planning, reporting and communication skills will therefore need to be at a high level. You must be a team player who is committed, outcome focussed, flexible and willing to share success.
