BACKGROUND

SAIC, a leading developer in the exciting, rapidly growing field of Bioinformatics, is seeking a Senior Scientific Developer as part of a interdisciplinary team developing a genomics knowledgebase.

RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of our team, the candidate must be experienced with life sciences and/or bioinformatics, common software development life cycle processes, and object-oriented design and development. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, focused contributor willing to work within a small, fast-paced team consisting of developers, DBAs, scientists, bioinformaticians and statisticians.
The individual will be in a highly-visible, customer-facing position where he/she will be on-site at the client facility. The individual will participate in meetings and assimilate feedback to ensure that the software which is developed is in close alignment with the interests of the target user community. Good verbal and written communication skills are critical to have in order to participate in meetings and disseminate information, applications and documents.
The individual will need to acquire and assimilate application requirements and user work flows for the design and development of system features and functionalities.
The individual will collect and analyze system requirements via the development of use cases. In addition to these tasks, the individual will perform core software development tasks by implementing select use cases by utilizing the Rational Unified Process (RUP) and Java/J2EE for enterprise development.

REQUIREMENTS
Proven Java software development experience in a genomics-oriented or bioinformatics environment.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the following is required: Java, Distributed Computing (i.e., RMI), Java Server Pages, and JDBC.

PREFERENCES
J2EE, EJB, SOAP, and JMS experiences are plus. Skills in Oracle, SQL, XML, Rational Rose/UML, Microsoft Windows XP, and LINUX are desired.
