BACKGROUND

The University of Luxembourg will offer a Master of Science degree in Information & Computer Sciences starting Autumn 2005. In this context, the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication is inviting applications for a professorship position in the fields of bioinformatics, computational biology or systems biology. The Faculty is looking for outstanding candidates committed to excellence in research and teaching, open to interdisciplinary work, and helping to develop an emerging academic institution. The successful applicant will join a research environment in the Life Sciences Department in molecular and cell biology, physiology and pharmacology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate is expected to participate in the development of existing research structures of the faculty. The candidate will participate in some of the following lectures of the bachelor and master programs of the FSTC: biologic, structural and chemical databases, bioinformatics and biomodelling, bioinformatics programming, systems biology, genomics and proteomics, basic chemistry. Moreover, the candidate is expected to supervise master and doctoral theses.

REQUIREMENTS

The applicants are required to have a PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics or a related field. A background in chemistry would be considered as an advantage. The candidate is expected to have a solid scientific record in more than two of the following fields: molecular and cell biology, bioinformatics, molecular modelling, computational biology, systems biology, integrative biology.
The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context. Successful applicants are required to have a working knowledge in English and in one of French and German. Comprehension of the third language will be considered as an advantage.
