    Pretoria National Bioinformatics Network Node: Node Manager Position

    DESCRIPTION

    The Pretoria Node of the National Bioinformatics Network (http://www.nbn.ac.za) is seeking a suitable person for the role of Node Manager. The Pretoria Node consists of the University of Pretoria Main Campus, Medical Campus, Veterinary Campus, the CSIR Lynnwood and Modderfontein Campuses, the ARC Onderstepoort and the University of Limpopo. The successful applicant will be responsible for management of intra-node activities, liaison with the other South African Nodes of the National Bioinformatics Network, as well as with the Central Node. Duties will include responsibility for Bioinformatics service provision and Bioinformatics support, coordination of and participation in training courses, involvement in the management of hardware and software resources, involvement in post-graduate training and the establishment of a personal research programme.

    The successful applicant will join a group involved in structural modelling and simulation, the development of microarray software tools, the development of a functional-genomic data management system and the development of a series of inhouse tools for data analysis and management. Support and services areas include web-based databases and general Bioinformatics tools, as well as microarray data analysis support. The successful applicant will be based in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Unit, University of Pretoria Main Campus.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum qualifications and experience:
    • A PhD in a relevant field, with experience in Bioinformatics training, services and support.
    • A proven research track record in Bioinformatics is essential.
    • Experience in the development of web-based applications is of importance.
    Salary and terms: ZAR 300,000 (cost of package) Annually renewable contract
