    BACKGROUND INFO

    St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee, is a premier center for research and treatment of potentially fatal childhood diseases, including cancer and certain blood, genetic, and immunodeficiency disorders. The hospital's mission is to find cures for children with catastrophic diseases through treatment and research. St. Jude Hospital is dedicated to providing unsurpassed patient care and to advancing the health of children through biomedical research.

    Currently, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has an opening for a Director, Clinical Research Informatics.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Director will be responsible for providing high-level management and leadership to the Clinical Research Informatics office which is responsible for the centralized clinical research applications supporting electronic data capture, storage and retrieval of human subject data for IRB-approved clinical research studies. The Director will also provide direction within Clinical Research Informatics to support high priority research studies and ensures responsiveness to the research investigators, as well as provide overall direction in the planning, design, development and support of new and legacy clinical research applications at SJCRH. These applications will include an in-house, state-of-the-art data system that has won a CIO award and for which an invention disclosure has been submitted to the US Patent and Trade Office. Other duties will be to directly and substantively support application users, set management priorities, oversee all formalized project plans, develop strategic plans, manage resources, and serve as expert advisor on technical, quality and research operational issues to the Vice President of Clinical Research.

    REQUIREMENTS

    The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems or a related area is required.
    • Master's degree in a related field preferred.
    • Ten (10) years of progressive management experience in information technology systems required, including five (5) years of experience supporting information systems in a health care setting and three (3) years of experience with systems development and deployment in a clinical research environment.
    • Project management experience that includes supervision of technical staff, budgetary responsibility and negotiating complex contracts required.
    • Experience in clinical or medical research and a thorough knowledge of new and emerging technologies and system architectures required.
    • Scientific background, especially experience with medical research, clinical trials and/or biomedical research, preferred.
