BACKGROUND
The University of the Witwatersrand is establishing a programme in
Bioinformatics to complement its strong research and teaching
programmes in the Faculties of Health Science and Science. As part of
this programme, a node of the National Bioinformatics Network has been
established.RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be involved in the establishing
and provision of teaching and service programmes in
bioinformatics. Besides being involved in formal teaching activities,
the candidate will be help in the training of postgraduates and
researchers, both with short courses and on an individual basis, and
help researchers with bioinformatics-related research. This position
is primarily a teaching and service post, but the successful candidate
will be encouraged to participate in one of the ongoing research
programmes at Wits.REQUIREMENTS
An MSc in an appropriate discipline (molecular biology, genetics, computer science); thorough knowledge of molecular biology and a range bioinformatics tools; high level of computer
literacy and some programming experience; a PhD and some teaching experience will be a recommendation; good interpersonal skills essential.
