BACKGROUND
Position will support new and existing programming projects in wide variety of fields, including chemistry, physics, biology, and economics, but primarily life sciences.RESPONSIBILITIES
Systems Programmer is responsible for the successful development/project management of several programming technologies to deliver computational applications and databases for Main Campus and Medical Center research community. This position will oversee the development and management of funded computational database projects and implementation using open-source database products. The position will be responsible for security, availability, performance, recover ability, software installation, configuration, maintenance, and on going improvement and technical support. Also assist in the resolution of systems and applications software.REQUIREMENTS
BS with 5 years experience required. Experienced programmer with strong skills in Java and C++. Technical Skills: Hands on Application development experience, including: Web-based, especially using servlets; Database design and SQL, DDL, and DML; Database optimization. Experience with any of the following (mostly) open source projects: Tomcat, OJB, Torque, Hibernate; PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle; Subversion, CVS; Eclipse, Linux, Perl. Other Skills: Strong verbal and written skills; knowledge of one or more of the following disciplines preferred: Microarray experiment data analysis, Bioinformatics; Teaching/training experience; biology, physics, chemistry, economics.PREFERENCES
Understanding of the message passing interface and other parallel programming tools is desirable. Knowledge of database design and implementation using open-source database products and SQL desirable. Knowledge of Biology, particularly MicroArray desirable. Experience as an educator desirable.LOCALE
