Opportunity: Director of BIOINFORMATICS and Computational Biology @ University of Minnesota--MN (US)

BACKGROUND:
The University of Minnesota seeks a Director for a new interdisciplinary research program, the Consortium for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CBCB). This is a cooperative venture of 10 University colleges, and was established to expand and unify existing programs.

The Director of CBCB will hold a tenured Full Professor position in an appropriate department at the University of Minnesota. Seed funding will allow the Director to recruit four junior faculty members. In addition, funding is provided for technical support staff, and for acquisition of substantial hardware and software systems. CBCB will also have access to the computational resources and technical support staff of the Digital Technology Center and the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of CBCB will be expected to develop collaborative research programs with University teams already in place, and to lead in development of graduate training programs. The Director will also be expected to lead the search for external funding to further expand the CBCB.

REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates for CBCB director should have distinguished records of research in the development or application of computational techniques to areas such as population genomics, proteomics, human disease, treatment and prevention, mathematical modeling of cell dynamics, interactions of environmental and geographic factors with biological systems, and statistical analyses of large databases. A Ph.D. is required.
