    DESCRIPTION

    The Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Georgia is seeking an experienced Bioinformatician to join its comparative genomics research lab. This is a regular staff position.

    WORK HOURS:
    Mon. - Fri., 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

    TRAINING/DEGREE REQUIRED:
    MS Preferred

    MAJOR FIELD OF STUDY

    Computer Science, Bioinformatics

    REQUIREMENTS

    Knowledge of programming languages important in bioinformatics, including Perl, Java, and SQL. Database administration in Windows/Linux environments.

    DESCRIPTION:
    Primary responsibility will be to manage and analyze DNA sequence data for varied genomics, bioinformatics and data mining projects. Additional responsibilities include: finding innovative solutions for project data analysis needs; programming for automation of data analysis tasks; evaluating and using state-of-the-art bioinformatics software; instructing lab members on use and applications of software; administering specialized bioinformatics servers; managing/maintaining web-based data repositories; advising on new projects.
