BACKGROUND

The Environmental Laboratory of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center is developing innovative technologies for detecting and assessing environmental impacts of military compounds. We are expanding our traditional ecotoxicology studies using toxicogenomic (genomics, proteomics, and metabonomics) and computational toxicology methods to assess and predict effects on ecological receptors (rodents, birds, fish, and earthworms), quantitative genetic biomarkers of exposure, identification of chemicals in complex media using gene expression, and algorithms relating early exposure gene indicators to long-term exposure effects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Opportunities exist for PhD level researchers to develop and execute bioinformatics and computational biology/toxicology efforts within this program. Fields of interest include, but are not limited to: 1) Biological networks (e.g., graph theoretical approaches for the analysis of metabolic and signaling pathways, and regulatory networks); 2) Comparative and functional genomics (e.g., protein and genome evolution; transcriptional and metabolite profiling); 3) Metagenomics (e.g., analysis of microbial consortia; 4) Structural bioinformatics (e.g., analysis of protein structural domains; homology modeling); 5) Knowledge discovery and data mining (e.g., data integration, cluster analysis, pattern discovery, biological ontologies). 6) Predictive modeling

REQUIREMENTS:
Interested people must have a PhD and demonstrated experience in bioinformatics and/or computaional biology.

COMPENSATION:
