BACKGROUND:
The Fred Hutchinson/University of Washington Cancer Consortium is seeking a new Director of Research Informatics Development. The Cancer Consortium is a new research collaboration comprising the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, the University of Washington, and Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center. The Consortium brings together nearly 350 faculty with research interests in basic, clinical, and public health sciences related to cancer, with total NCI funding of $127 million in 2004. While all three institutions remain independent, the Consortium combines their strengths to accelerate research progress in the fight against cancer and develop premier research programs across many types of cancer. RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Research Informatics Development is responsible for strategic planning for intermediate- and long-term shared informatics infrastructure at the exciting intersection of clinical and transitional research for the Cancer Consortium. The ideal candidate will have a balance of technology, business, and program/project management skills as well as a demonstrated track record of collaborating with and influencing senior level business and scientific decision makers. The successful candidate will oversee and manage the development and implementation of the Consortium Research Informatics initiatives plan, in facilitating progress and communication as well as provide support for the research goals of Cancer Consortium members. In addition, the candidate will work closely with the Fred Hutchinson and Consortium leadership to define and drive program goals and vision, including establishing and maintaining the programâ??s objectives, priorities, and policies. He/She will also manage the development and oversight of the programâ??s budget and project staff.
REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelorâ??s Degree is required, while a Masterâ??s Degree is preferred. Scientific education or experience working in scientific, medical, or clinical research settings is highly desirable, preferably with a background in information systems. Experience in overseeing project scope definition and analysis through delivery of multiple IT projects simultaneously will be key, as well as organizing resources and establishing priorities. Excellent communication and listening skills, and the ability to work with cross-functional and diverse teams are essential.
