    BACKGROUND & RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provide strong bioinformatics expertise in support of CHOPâ??s Clinical Genomics of Pediatric Cardiology initiative. Participate with project leadership in codification of existing databases for further evaluation and integration. Direct the integration or interfacing of data from multiple sources to create composite, researchable and clinically relevant information related to the identification and management of pediatric cardiac disease. Have significant impact on the activities of newly formed biomedical informatics department

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Advanced skills utilizing and in depth knowledge of biomedical informatics algorithms, tools and resources, e.g., genomic and clinical data standards, bio-ontologies, data integration schemes, and familiarity with biomedical databases.
    • Expertise on nucleic acid and protein databases both in flat file and relational forms.
    • Fluency in JAVA, PERL, and/or C, and XML.
    • Strong working knowledge or training in advanced biomedical research.
    • Proficiency in UNIX-based operating systems.
    • Familiarity with PC/MAC hardware and software, e.g., databases and etc.
    • Knowledge of networking, TCP/IP, DECnet preferred.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with both research and technical staff.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance while consistently exercising good judgment.
    • Ability to learn new technology quickly.
    • Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects.
    • Ability to write and implement complex computer programs.

    PREFERENCES

    M.D. and/or Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology or closely related fields. Five (5) years bioinformatics development experience in a RD setting.
