    BACKGROUND

    The post is aimed at developing the existing SPLASH database system to incorporate novel research tools and to implement new computational statistics methods for exploiting the large genomics and proteomics datasets that are arising in cancer biomarker research, involving different data mining approaches (artificial intelligence application and multi-variant analyses etc.) and the heterogeneous data integration and analysis.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    You will work with another computational statisticianmathematician to implement the algorithms, under the supervision of Professor Hew Choy Leong, Professor Maxey Chung and Dr. Lin Qingsong of the Onco-Proteomics Centre in DBS.     REQUIREMENTS

    The ideal applicant should hold at least a good Honours degree or Masters degree in computer sciences or related fields (such as bioinformatics) with application development and maintenance experience. Life science graduates with computing skills are also welcome to apply.
    • Strong knowledge in database, MySQL
    • Well versed in Java, Perl, XML, XSL
    • Familiar with open-source platforms such as Apache, Tomcat, Cocoon, Bioperl
    • Being able to maintain Linux servers
    • Self-motivated with the initiative to work independently
    • Knowledge in proteomics would be an advantage

    TERMS

    This appointment is for two years, starting October 2005 (later by agreement) and is extendable.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary is between S$30,000-58,200, inclusive of staff benefits, based on qualifications and relevant research experience.
