BACKGROUND

The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) is a joint facility of the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, with state-of-the-art technology platforms in transcriptomics, proteomics and bioinformatics. We are seeking to fill the following position:

Database / Bioinformatics Expert

to supplement the core bioinformatics staff of the FGCZ working in proteomics.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary tasks of the successful candidate will be to develop, operate, and administer the Systems Biology Experiment Analysis Management System (SBEAMS) and the peptide/protein identification pipeline in front of it. Above systems are operated on Linux and MS SQL servers, with software written in SQL/Perl/C++. The work will be carried out with the team of bioinformatics staff of the FGCZ and in collaboration with a broad range of external experts of the University and ETH Zurich in the fields of informatics and life sciences. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art computing facilities of both institutions.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate should have solid knowledge of MS SQL/database programming, Perl/C++, Linux administration, and experience with handling of large data volumes. A higher degree in the field of informatics or related areas is expected. Advanced knowledge of English is essential, as this is the working language of the center.
