Opportunity: PostDoc position in BIOINFORMATICS--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (US)

BACKGROUND:
The maize genome is slated to be completed in 2006, opening a new era in the study one of the world's most important crop plants and is a model system for plant biology. Despite widespread use of nitrogen fertilizer to increase grain yield, little is known about the genes that control maize responses to nitrogen. This position is part of an interdisciplinary team supported by the NSF Plant Genome Research program and collaborations with industry to discover nitrogen-responsive genes in maize through functional genomics approaches. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Developing a data mining and analysis platform for integrated mRNA expression profiling and physiological phenotyping experiments.

REQUIREMENTS:
Ph.D. in plant biology or bioinformatics disciplines. Experience with Linux, relational databases (e.g. SQL) and computer programming (e.g. Java, C++) or scripting languages (e.g. Perl). Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.

PREFERENCES:
Familiarity with publicly available database resources for plant genomics is desirable.

TERMS:
Position has guaranteed funding for two years.

LOCALE:
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
