    BACKGROUND

    Large-scale technologies, such as microarray, mass spectrometry, and cellular images, are being used for genomic and proteomic studies in model animals. These studies generate enormous amounts of data and the analysis of data on this scale is a major current challenge. There is an urgent need to develop mathematical modeling tools that perform integrated analyses of these large-scale data with other types of data, for example, DNA sequences, protein-protein interaction, chromosomal localization, literature, and so on.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The major aim of this Ph.D. program is to develop novel mathematical modeling tools for inferring large-scale causal relationships among genes/proteins from heterogeneous biological data. The students will be trained in an interdisciplinary academic environment including expertise in molecular biology, large-scale technologies and computational biology.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants should have a strong interest in computational biology. Applications are welcome from students in bioinformatics and related areas, including computer science, statistics, molecular cellular biology, or quantitative genetics.

    PREFERENCES

    Programming skills is desired.
