Opportunity: COMPUTATIONAL BIOCHEMIST/Scientific Programmer Position at Lockheed Martin--NC (US)

BACKGROUND:
Lockheed Martin is seeking a computational scientist/scientific programmer to support its customer, the Environemtnal Protection Agency (EPA) in the environmental health sciences. We are engaged in a number of activities relvant to the field of bioinformatics, computational biochemistry, and computational toxicology. We also have responsibilities for supporting EPA programs in emerging areas such as "omics" research and analyses, data integration, and bioinformatics "grid" infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Scientific Applications Programmer will work to complete task order deliverables for Lockheed Martin's Information Technology Solution's Environmental Systems Engineering (ITS-ESE) contract with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). This effort encompasses high performance computing, scientific applications code development, enhancement, and optimization, and visualization of scientific data. In particular, the scientific programmer will be required to use knowledge of chemistry and scientific computing to support the bioinformatics, e.g., genomics, work of the EPA's National Center for Computational Toxicology and other Centers and Laboratories using `omics research tools. The Scientific Applications Programmer may occasionally be required to perform other scientific programming tasks. The scientific applications programmer will work on the staff of US EPA's Scientific Visualization Center, part of the Agency's Environmental Modeling and Visualization Laboratory (EMVL).

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 14 years or more of professional experience; or 12 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an expert, authority in discipline.

PREFERENCES:
Builds and codes applications and/or modules using languages such as C/C++, visual basic, ABAP, JAVA, XTML, etc. May design graphical user interface (GUI) to meet the specific needs of users. Prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.

LOCALE:
This is a permanent position located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

COMPENSATION:
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
