Post-doctoral Positions in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology at University of Toronto

Outstanding candidates are invited t o apply for post-doctoral positions in bioinformatics and computational biology in the Centre For Cellular & Biomolecular Research (CCBR) at University of Toronto. These positions are part of a collaborative research project funded by Genome Canada.

BACKGROUND

The Donnelly CCBR is a cutting-edge interdisciplinary biomedical research centre located in the heart of Torontoâ??s research district, which is one of the largest and most active biomedical research communities in the world. As the bioinformatics component of a large â??Integrative Biologyâ?? project, the candidates will interact with local experimental groups in the areas of functional genomics (Brenda Andrews, Charlie Boone, Tim Hughes) and proteomics (Andrew Emili, Jack Greenblatt). The CCBR is also establishing a collaborative Bioinformatics Core that currently consists of Zhaolei Zhang, Quaid Morris, Mike Brudno and Brendan Frey.

PROJECTS

Candidates will work in the following general areas. (1) Comparative genomics and Gene regulation: focusing on characterizing and predicting regulatory elements (TFBS) and other functional elements by comparative/evolutionary/computational approaches; (2) Analysis of cellular networks: protein-protein interaction and genetic networks, metabolic pathways, data integration, data mining and simulations, software and algorithm development; (3) Other general topics in bioinformatics and computational biology that are synergistic to the research efforts in the CCBR.

REQUIREMENTS:
Successful candidates should be highly innovative and motivated individuals with experience in bioinformatics and computational biology, defined loosely, with evidence of past research achievement and future potentials. Candidates who have strong quantitative background (computer science, mathematics, statistics etc) are also welcome to apply. They should have good programming skills and be able to work in a collaborative environment.
