    BACKGROUND:
    This position will function as part of a team of Research Informatics Scientists whose main focus is to advance drug discovery projects at Roche Palo Alto.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    As a member of Modeling and Data Analysis, this role will provide statistical support for projects involving data analysis, modeling/simulation, and prediction. Will collaborate in the development of new informatics systems involving statistics and data analysis and aid others in the research community by interpreting complex results from literature and statistical analysis of data. Will analyze complex data sets, using the most up-to-date methodologies, providing complete reports to other research team members. Will collaborate with other functions in Global Research Informatics in the development of systems involving statistics or data analysis. Will maintain current awareness and understanding of industry/academia developments in statistics/modeling/simulation and participate in the work of a cross divisional group of statistical experts.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    PhD/equivalent in Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics and 1-3 years relevant experience. Strong knowledge of theoretical and applied statistics and contemporary visualization techniques. Experience with statistical software packages such as SAS, S-Plus/R, and MATLAB. Knowledge of at least one programming language such as C, C++, and Java. Strong communication skills and experience working in a team environment. Must be able to clearly and effectively communicate statistical issues to a non-technical audience.

    PREFERENCES:
    Familiarity with analysis of biological data including data generated with Affymetrix and/or Taqman techniques. Familiarity with cheminformatics data preferred as well.
