RESPONSIBILITIES

The microarray data analysis group has an immediate opening for a scientist with advanced skills in both plant molecular physiology and large-scale data analysis. The qualified candidate will be involved in the design and analysis of profiling experiments, and developing testable hypotheses through mining of diverse data sources such as sequence information, metabolite and protein profiles, phenotypes, pathways and literature. The individual will need to work closely and communicate clearly with scientists from other disciplines such as plant trait biologists, statisticians, bioinformaticians and IT software/database developers.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D in plant biology, plant physiology, plant molecular genetics or bioinformatics with 3+ years of experience in data mining of genome-scale data. The candidate should have a firm understanding of microarray data interpretation, a comprehensive working knowledge of common bioinformatics tools and statistical data analysis algorithms, and should have demonstrated the ability to apply that knowledge to unravel the molecular basis of a phenotype. The candidate should have clear communication skills, with the ability to state accomplishments and approaches succinctly and to summarize complex concepts in simple language understandable by scientists from a variety of disciplines. Experience in large dataset manipulation and visualization or in a scripting language under Windows or Unix environment is strongly desired.
