BACKGROUND:
The Faculty of Computer Science and Information Systems (FSKSM) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia seeks outstanding individuals to fill faculty positions in the disciplines of computer science with a focus on bioinformatics.UTM has a major commitment to support Bioinformatics research and there are outstanding opportunities for collaboration with other disciplines and researchers for other organizations, locally and abroad.

FSKSM is the largest computer science department in Malaysia, with 157 faculty and a research volume of over MYR$8 million. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science and has approximately 600 undergraduate and 350 graduate students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Candidates are sought for all ranks, ranging from Lecturers, Associate Professor to Professor. Candidates must meet university-wide criteria specific to such appointments. The successful faculty candidate is expected to contribute to the development of academic and research programs in computing with an application focus in bioinformatics while participating in research collaborations.

REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates should have an earned masters, doctorate or equivalent in bioinformatics, computer science, or related fields. MSc and Ph.D. candidates who have just completed their thesis will also be considered. Demonstrated research and academic leadership is required for senior ranks.

PREFERENCES:
expertise in distributed databases, information modeling, statistical pattern analysis, machine learning, data mining, parallel algorithms for high performance computing and algorithm optimization; all with applications to bioinformatics. Programming experience in perl, Java, or Globus will be an added advantage.

TERMS

The position is immediately available and initially for 2 years. The appointment will be effective as negotiated.

COMPENSATION

The salary is commensurate with the experience.
