    Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICS Scientist @ Monsanto

    ABOUT US:

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We are looking for a highly motivated bioinformatics scientist who will be responsible for providing bioinformatics expertise in the areas of data mining (sequence, transcript, phenotype. etc), data integration, and bioinformatics training. The individual will work closely with research teams to identify, prioritize, and fulfill bioinformatics needs as needed. The individual would be expected to provide training in the efficient use of the latest bioinformatics software and database tools, as well as contributing to bioinformatics process optimization and standardization, and working with the bioinformatics tool development team to define tool requirements etc. The role will require significant time management and excellent communication skills as well as extensive bioinformatics skills to provide support to individual scientists and solve bioinformatics bottlenecks and problems. The role will also include organizing and hosting workshops/tutorials/seminars on how to efficiently access and use (both Monsanto and public) genomic, proteomic and phenotypic data, and how best to leverage bioinformatics software and databases. The role will require interfacing with a broad cross-section of the Monsanto scientific community, and requires someone able to understand the biological context of the research questions and drive bioinformatics solutions.

    REQUIREMENTS

    An MSc/PhD in (Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Bioinformatics) with 3+ years of bioinformatics experience is required. Excellent knowledge of the latest bioinformatics tools and databases for sequence, phylogeny, and structural analysis is required. PERL required, CGI, HTML, SQL desirable. Excellent communication and teaching skills, and the ability to interact with research scientists are essential requirements.
