    Bioinformatics/Molecular Evolution (Tenure-track, Assistant Professor)

    BACKGROUND

    The Department of Biology at Central Michigan University seeks an exemplary researcher/teacher to fill a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin August 2006, in the areas of bioinformatics or molecular evolution.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    This faculty member will teach upper-level courses in their area of specialty, courses in bioinformatics, evolution, and/or molecular biology, and contribute to the introductory program. The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous research program that involves talented undergraduates and graduate students and attracts extramural funding. Applications from outstanding candidates using bioinformatics in the context of evolutionary biology, including population genetics, evolutionary genomics, and conservation genetics, are especially encouraged.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Candidates must have an earned doctorate (post-doctoral experience preferred) in the biological sciences or a related area, experience in the general areas of bioinformatics and molecular biology, and demonstrate strong potential for outstanding teaching, mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, and establishing a vigorous research program. All candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Appointment is normally at the Assistant Professor level, although a more senior appointment is possible for candidates with a strong record of external funding. CMU is proactive in exploring opportunities for the employment of spouses, both inside and outside the University.
