KLblaster is an application allowing the graphical analysis of the results from NCBI's BLAST suite of softwares. KLblaster provides several graphical user interfaces to view and explore BLAST results in various ways, facilitating the interpretation of the data. It is the rewritten of the Visual Blast software (Durand et al. (1997) Bioinformatics, Vol 13, 407-41) I wrote several years ago and for which I did not have anymore time to maintain as a native Win32 application. KLblaster is now a 100% pure Java application. KLblaster does not yet provide all the features of VisualBlast, however it proposes two new network-based convenient tools. First, KLblaster contains a BLAST search scheduler capable of executing distant BLAST search on the NCBI BLAST facility. Second, it provides a Feature loader system capable of retrieving sequence annotations from the NCBI databases. Downloaded features are then displayed in context, i.e. features are directly displayed on the sequence alignments.
VisualBlast was mainly designed for biologists, so is KLblaster. I hope it will be useful for them to simplify the use of BLAST.
The software is available for free, in binary-only form with a single-user license:
