    BACKGROUND

    A multi-institutional project in rice (http://www.uark.edu/ua/ricecap/) aims to discover genes governing complex, economically important traits, using a variety of approaches.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Database and software development and bioinformatic analysis. A major focus is on developing database interoperability with other WWW resources via BioMOBY and related structures.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Ph.D. in a relevant biological or analytical science. Experience in one or more programming languages including Perl; working knowledge of SQL and relational database design; basic bioinformatics knowledge (sequence manipulation, microarrays, genomics, DNA markers); good oral and written communication skills.

    PREFERENCES

    Familiarity with and interest in molecular and quantitative genetics, statistics, plant breeding.

    TERMS

    Appointment is for one year beginning Jan. 1, 2006, renewable.

    Kansas State University, Department of Plant Pathology, Manhattan, KS.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary $40 - 44K, benefits.
