    BACKGROUND

    Exelixis Plant Sciences (EPS), based in Portland, Oregon is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Exelixis, Inc. EPS is dedicated to the discovery and production of high value products for improved nutrition and health.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    In close collaboration with scientific staff, you will identify opportunities, needs and solutions for the collection, management, extraction, and analysis of genetic, genomic and biochemical data. You will design and implement new informatics tools through the development of software, databases, and interfaces to acquire and manipulate these data. You will work with existing in-house and third-party software and evaluate new third-party technology in order to select, implement and integrate informatics systems that will meet research needs.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants should hold a BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or equivalent with a degree or considerable coursework in the biological sciences. Two years of programming experience with C, C++, and/or Java developing tools in a production environment is required. Experience with object oriented programming, basic knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CGI, SQL and database concepts along with an interest in plant biology, molecular biology, genetics and/or genomics is also required. Experience with Design Patterns and UML is preferred. Applicants should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a professional outlook that fosters consensus building and collaboration.
